Cheating: oh how I regret it

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Aug 17 and am on my last week of mushies and purees. Next week I graduate to soft foods, and the following week anything goes.

BUT, I've been cheating slightly, to no detriment, except for Wednesday. Wednesday I "splurged" on a Thai dish -- salmon and veggies (not too spicy). I was craving veggies. I didn't eat a large portion (only 1/4 - 1/3 of the dish).

Boy did I pay for it today. Very uncomfortable.

Which leads me to a question -- how have you been able to get vegetables in during mushies and soft food? I feel like all I'm eating is Protein, dairy, and more Protein.

Also, I'm not really feeling restriction except for the stitches. I've had no issues drinking Water, finishing Protein shakes (except for taste) and other issues I was warned about.

Is this just because I haven't had a fill yet (scheduled for 10/6).

Thanks for any advice!

I actually focussed more on vegies than Protein and ate a lot of Protein plant foods - chick peas, lentils etc.

reason being, we're not told to focus on protein here in Australia like you guys are and tend to consider our fresh fruit and vegies at least as important, and generally more so than the protein, which we all seem to get enough of anyway.

and going a bit low on protein and such for a few weeks while you're recovering is not going to hurt you anyway. Not with the way most Americans and Australians have eaten, our bodies have plenty of stores for a rainy day.

You will be hungry until you get a fill. You shouldn't have hurt anything by eating vegetables as they are mostly Water, but as you said it bothered your stomach so perhaps you were not ready for what you had. You can always puree your veggies. Unfortunately the body cannot store protein so we have to replenish it daily and they emphasize it because our calorie intake is low and it's difficult to get in the amt we need. But all those grams do not have to come from animal sources. There are great alternatives! I added Peanut Butter to my chocolate Protein drinks to make them taste a bit better.

Hello,

According to my Nut's instructions: I can have

- low sodium Vegetable juice such as V8 - IN THE FULL liquid DIET 3-14 days after the surgery.

- in the next mushi phase: soft-cooked Carrots, squash, green Beans, broccoli, cauliflower - all other vegetables should be pureed.

No veggies in your liquid stage. Due to your stomach healing and accepting your new band. Then, in mushie stage, eat things like refried Beans and if you want an approved veggie, blend it or smash it up good. Cauliflower mashed with a little chesse is really good. Kind of taste like mashed potatoes. You will feel hunger until your first fill more than likely. It is a very difficult time just before that as you are pretty much healed and your body has accepted the band and you begin to feel the hunger pains set in.

My nutritionist said I could have my V-8 Vegetable blend Soups in the puree phase. They come in several flavors and are well blended. Each box contains 2 servings and each serving is 2 servings of daily vegetables. They are actually quite delicious. Butternut squash is my favorite. I ate them on my pre-op diet and can't wait until I can have them again next week!

Good luck!

Hey Joshesgirl,

I was only banded yesterday but in the full liquid and mushies stage i'm going to be pureeing/liquidizing all sorts of stuff in a blender. I have a Magic Bullet blender so i think its gonna work out fine. Gonna dump some veggie Soup in there and blend up a storm

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
