Rebanding and insurance

Recommended Posts

Has anybody here been rebanded? Would your insurance pay for it?

My previous employer's insurance would not so I went to Mexico. My band removal WAS NOT my Mexico doctor's fault. I got a horrible stomach virus that caused me to throw up violently for days and that made my band slip down to the middle of my stomach and it had to be removed.

So now I'm at a different job with different insurance-PacificCare PPO.

Even though Dr. Ortiz will cut the price back it would still be $6800 and that doesn't count my airfare (which I can get cheap thanks to my airline attendant sister) and my hotel, I can't afford it at least right now.

Figured I would contact Dr. Patterson and Dr. Hong at Legacy in Portland, OR and see what my options are there. If I can get the team at Legacy to help me get insurance to pay for it, I will go there. I love Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez and if I had the money, I'd go there in a heartbeat. But right now that's not an option.

Anybody have an info to share? Thanks!

Thank you Crystal...I've been lurking, but not feeling like I quite fit in anymore without my band. I really do want to get rebanded, just not sure how I'm going to swing this. I emailed Legacy Good Samaritan in Portland and now I'll patiently (lol) wait for a reply on their policy of rebanding.

OMGosh, I hope you hear something soon. Seems like if they cover banding, they'd cover re-banding? I don't know, but I'm rooting for you!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
