Psych Evaluation Question

Recommended Posts

I am having my psych ev. on October 14th. What questons do they ask. I am nervous I am going to screw it up and have the psychiatrist tell me I fail. No surgery for you! The nurse said the appointment is 1 1/2 hours long and that got me more nervous! Thank you guys, Sue:Bunny

They just want to make sure you do not have an eating disorder (at least thats what my doc told me).

The appointment lasts so long because you'll probably have to take the MMPS test.....it's nothing.....they ask tons of true or false questions....some really strange questions and lots of regular questions. It's a piece of cake...don't let it worry you. And, unless, you have an eating disorder (besides overeating!!) you will find the experience quite pleasant. Just like "talking" with someone....no biggie! Good Luck, stay calm.....this appointment is a breeze.

I think that they're also making sure that you're being realistic about the weight loss. You know, that you know it's going to take a lifestyle change, that the weight isn't going to magically disappear. Just that you're being realistic and as stated by others, that you don't have an eating disorder.

actually an eating disorder would not necessarily mean no band for you. If you have serious binging things you can still be banded successfully. My DH was a serious Binger and has lost close to 200 pounds so far.

I didnt have to do any test or anything. Just sat and talked with the therapist, asked about my family, friends, what kind of support network I had, what my expectations were, that kind of stuff. It was actaully quite pleasent. I liked the woman I talked with. Dont worry about it, it just sounds so intense.... its not really.

It was the same for me as it was for j.s.. No test for me. We just sat and talked. The only bad thing that happened was after the appt. Some man was out in his truck and said he had a gun and was going to kill himself and anyone who got in his way. I was moved into the back office by some police officers and had to stay there for 2HOURS. The man did kill himself but no one else. He was in a truck camper so I didn't have to see him. I was finally escorted to my car by a officer with a BIG gun.

Dont Panic...My psych eval was a short questionaire and about a 1/2 hour chatting with the doctor (who IMO was as crazy as a loon). They just want to make sure that you dont have any unrealistic ideas and that you have a support system. My advise - don't tell her/him that you want to be a bikini model and you will be all set.

The doctor I went to see asked about my hubby and kids and I pulled out all the pictures and showed her and she gave me advise on how to make my clothes stretch between sizes so I didn't spend a fourtune on clothes and right before I left she said - come Easter you are going to be goergous (SP?). I stressed out for nothing - go in relaxed and be yourself - you'll do fine.

Good luck,

Are you going to go postal if you can't ever eat bread again? I am pretty sure that's what my doc was trying to find out. If you think the band is a magic cure, it won't work for you - so they want to be sure that you know that there are things that you won't be able to do - and lots of things that you will have to work at doing.

I had to take a 500 item questionairre with scaled answers 1= very true & 5 = very false. That sort of thing. Trust me, if they didn't lock ME up - you will be JUUUUST fine.

:]

The electroshock therapy was the worst part of it for me... Just kidding! It was a piece of cake for me as well. Just a very expensive conversation. You're going to do great!

It wasn't a big deal for me either. Just show the therapist that you are serious about a lifestyle change, well read on the topic of the band, and that you know the lapband will serve as a tool to help you make changes that are in your best interest.

My best advice:

Be completely honest no matter how worried you are of the outcome. This evaluation is an important step in this process and the best way to make sure you are (no matter how much you think you are) ready for this lifestyle change.

I felt wonderful after having my eval.. it made me really open my eyes.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
