Hit a plateau for months now.... arggg

Recommended Posts

Short and to the point... I haven't lost any weight in about 3-4 months now. I was banded on 10-17-08, and have since lost about 45-50 lbs. I exercise 4-5 times a week, running. I don't eat bad, but do cheat every once in a while. My restriction is good. I'm at a loss and don't want to fail this thing. Any advice or suggestions?? Help me out. I honestly thought I would be near my goal weight, which would be another 40-50 lbs, by my anniversary, but obviously I'm not going to make it. I'm starting to stress out over this. I bounce between 198-204. If I could just see 197 on the scales I would be so excited! Anyone else felt this way?

idk if you would want to do this or not but . . . I just had a fill and I have to be on liquids for 7 days. I am on day 4 and have dropped 7 lbs!!!! OMG Anyway, if you can suffer through cream Soups, Protein Shakes (low fat, low carb of course) then heck, I bet you would lose something????

I am almost in exactly the same situation! My surgery was 1/14/09 but we started at almost the same weight and are stuck at just about the same weight. I don't have good restriction yet & my band is almost full. 4oz or 1/2 cup of food leaves me very very hungry. Had it checked under fluro last time and no slip or anything.

It's getting depressing actually.

I'm thinking about cutting all/most carbs to jump start things again, but I had this done so I don't have to make some foods off limits, you know?

7 days of liquids following a fill?? jesus, that's harsh

First of all, have you been getting your Protein and necessary nutrition? Secondly, you say that you cheat occasionally, is this often or just once in a great while?

Secondly, I plateaued for 8 weeks then it started coming off again. I thought that was a long time, but you got me beat.

Thirdly, and probably most importantly, I am wondering why you think you would have lost another 40-50lbs in one year, that seems like a very lofty goal. Not completely unattainable, but not healthy sustained loss in my opinion.

Basically if you really look at the "big picture" you have lost according to schedule. If you take the total weeks since being banded divided by your weight loss (including weeks of no loss) you have lost an average of 1.38lbs per week. You should be SO proud, that's FANTASTIC!!!

I think you're kind of in the abyss of a plateau which is NO FUN believe me. I would suggest you cut out the cheating all together and stick to the original plan. If you do that, you will lose again. Keep going!!!

I am now 11 months out and I have to say, I TOTALLY stalled in months 7,8 & 9 for some reason. Not a pound lost in those months. I bumped up my Protein intake and now I am on a roll again.

Thanks for all the comments! Couple of answers to the questions that were asked...

I only cheat ever so often. Not all the time, but if there is something that I want, I will have a small bite.

I know my weight loss has been good and on average. I just hoped to have lost more by now but will continue the fight!

I will up my Protein and keep at it. I don't plan to give up b/c I've come toooooo far! I'm not a quitter, only a winner!

Thanks again for all your responses!

Do you journal your foods daily? If so, how many calories do you consume each day? You may be surprised to find out you aren't eating enough. If you are RUNNING 4-5 times per week, your calorie intake should probably be around 1500 maybe a little higher per day. If you are lower than that, try adding some healthy foods, maybe 2 extra Snacks per day that are healthy choices and see if it helps.

I am right there will all of you!!!!!!!!! Getting very frustrated at myself...been on a plateau for 3-4 months now. I am my own worst enemy some days. The only time I loose is when I get a fill and need to be on liquids for a day and mushies for the second day..I usually loose then so I am thinking of doing liquids for a couple of days to get me back in the swing of things. I am currently at 9 cc in a 14 cc band. My appt was to be on Wed and surgeon's office called to re-scheudle due to a conflict so I am going to try and get in quickly. Last fill I finally had some restriction, but it went away after a week so I am hoping the next one will do it. Good luck to everyone!

I am sitting on the plateau also. My restriction is good, I am doing mindless eating. I know I don't want or need it, I just eat it. Early on I must have been more motivated because I didn't have a problem passing on something, now I look for stuff to eat just because. I can't get my head back into this and I am really very upset with myself. I got under 190 and into a size 12 jeans. I WAS DONE!!! That wasn't the plan, but my sub seems to think so. NO matter what I tell myself when I go to bed about what tomorrow will be it just doesn't happen. If I can get to 184 and hold it for a few days I would be on top of the world again.

I was moving along really well and then had to have a total unfill for surgery. I had just met my original goal but want to lose 15 more. I feel that way because I am going to have a heck of a time maintaining for a month laying around and I'm already eating differently although trying to watch it.

Have you tried to go on Protein Shakes for a few days to shake up your body? Are you eating enough? Sometimes changing what you have been doing and mixing it up fools the body into action again. You don't need a fill?

You will reach your goal and don't beat yourself up over not reaching a certain number in a yr. It's just a date. So what if you take a few months longer. You'll get there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
