Hoping and Praying

Hi there. I have been seriously thinking about WLS for a couple of months now. I have been leaning more towards the Band. So I call my insurance company and find out that it's covered 100% *IF* I am approved.

I've been fighting with my weight most of my life. I've lost 50+ lbs 3 times only to gain it all back PLUS, not to mention all of the other attempts and losing 20 or so...then tank out and gain it back. I am tired of the fight. I am 45 years old and have 2 young children (9 yrd old boy and 5 yr old girl) I am horrible shape. I am 5'11" and 295 lbs. My knees kill me. Now I am having problems with my feet :frown: I cannot live like this any longer. I really feel I have hit rock bottom.

Going to see my PCP tomorrow about my foot - I think I have that plantar fascia Or however that's spelled, and I am going to ask him what he thinks about my being a candidate for the band.

I have to be honest, the thing about having to diet for 6 months really makes me feel sad at this point. My thought is, if I could do that and stick with it for 6 months then why seek out the help ..the tool that the band offers. I realize that the Band isn't a magic wand and that I will have to work hard, but I really think it's the tool that will help me achieve my goal weight and help me to stay there. I just don't feel I have the fight in me to go through the 6 months deal at this time. I am tired of fighting. Know what I mean? I Know I sound terrible saying this. But I am at a LOW point .....

Any feedback would be apprecaited. Sorry about the whining.

Suzy from the Detroit area.

6 months are going to go by whether you follow the pre op diet or not. So why not spend the 6 months getting ready for a great change in you life that can help you from that point on instead of eating for that 6 months and end up unhappy anyway. You just need a little willpower and then you get the help you want. I spent almost every month doing some type of diet anyway and then regained later. You can do! Find a buddy to do it with maybe even someone on this board. Good Luck!!!!

Yes, that's true that the time will go by anyhow. It's just that since I have decided that this is what I want to do..I want it NOW!! Wah. (ok being funny there, I know that's not how it works)

How are you doing? You just recently got banded I see.....

Actually my husband's sister is interested, too. I am going to see if I can find a seminar for us both to attend together.

I know 6 months is a long time. I did not have to do any type of pre op diet because I was self pay. I did get mine really fast because of that reason. But if I would have had to do a diet I would have. It is so worth having some HOPE that when you lose it this time it might be gone for good. That feels so good!!! I am 7 weeks post op and down about 22 lbs since surgery. I eat pretty much whatever I want keeping to Protein first. I have not vomitted or slimed or anything like that. I did get a piece of banana stuck but I just coughed and up it came. My experience with everything involving the band has been great. I had Taco bell the other day, and I ate one taco and dumped out the inside of other one and ate that and I am full. This is worth doing in my opinion.

Thanks! yes I am down a pant size and that feels good! Keep in touch and let me know how it goes for you and what you decide. You dr. may not make you even go on a 6 month diet. Who knows.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
