hypocondriac!

Recommended Posts

Almost into my 8th day post op. Today I had a bit of pain on the abdomen, near one of the cuts. Tonight, i have a hard lump in that area.... i dont want to get scared, the other cuts are ok. There is no infection, so I am thinking hernia.... or mental disease. Please, someone tell me its normal and I am being stupid worrying so much.

Do you mean there is a lump by the port incision???

Thats Fluid buildup. Happened to me also and to a lot of people. Try massaging it very gently until its all reabsorbed into the body.

Why don't you go ask on the yahoo groups if people have had what you are experiencing. :D

Hi Tellie -

You really are almost through the worst of the "hypochondriac" phase - I promise! :D I think most of us had those same fears - that we would be one of the minority that something really freaky happend to. :D

As I said in my earlier post, in another week or two you will have many less unusual things going on, and you won't feel so uneasy.

Oh, BTW, Welcome to Bandland!!

Tellie,

I must be your twin sister then because I'm freaking out that if I cough everything will be messed up because it hurts so much to do so!

I know I'm very swollen around my port area...feels hard underneath it..but then I think there is a foreign body under there and of course my body is going to be like, "what the hell is this..."

Don't worry hun...we are still healing...I just had surgery on November 5th and I think in a week or two we'll be smiling when all the gas is gone and the swelling is down!

I appreciate so much all of your replies, although, Leo, I didn't get the yahoo thing, sorry. :D

My doctor called just before I connected this morn to check for replies and said basically not to worry. Then I read your replies, and I am even less worried now.... cannot promise I won't freak again tho. This is so foreign, so strange, and I have been having doubts the whole week.... wondering if I did the right thing, if I could have tried harder with less dramatic methods, like 25 years of trying wasn't enough proof that i cant do it, not long term anyway (I'm only counting from my first weight watchers experience at 8).

Anyway, thank you all so much! I like this place :D

Sorry for not explaining it in more details. On yahoo they have all sort of groups. You can go here to signup http://groups.yahoo.com/ . After you signup for a account, you do a search for groups you want to join. Some bandster groups you could join are :

1) Smartbandsters

2) mexicanbandsters

3) dfwbandsters

4) bandsters-nyc

There are a lot of people on those groups , join and post the questions you want to ask and most of the time you will get some informative replies.

Hope this helps :D

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
