Question re: Weight History

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new here so please bear with me. :( I'm just starting my investigation into the lap band procedure. I've seen posts from others who have my same insurance (BCBS TX), who had to provide a 5 year weight history to get approved for lap band.

I wasn't under a doctor's care until this year, so I don't have 5 years of weight documentation to provide. However, when I was under an OB/GYN's care 8 years ago, my weight was documented (and, as today, put me at a BMI of 35 - 37).

I guess what I'm wondering is, how do you provide 5 years of weight documentation if you didn't have insurance and weren't seeing a doctor for the past 5 years?

Thanks in advance! :cursing:

I was able to use pictures for two years where I didn't see a Dr. The rest of the weights they got from OBGYN, and minor care dr. My insurance is United Healthcare, I was approved and had surgery on the 12th. I did have to have six months of diet/weight related visits to the doctor....that was a pain. Good luck to you!

I have Kaiser of So. Cal. and I just had to list the different methods I have tried to lose the weight over the past five years and my weight at the time of each diet such as, Jenny Craig, Lindora, Slimfast, Adkins, etc. Since I never self documented any of my weight loss attempts I just kinda guessed at it. However, I ended up going to Mexico and paying for surgery myself since they refuse to do the lap band procedure. (long story I was given misinformation). I wasn't about to let the insurance dictate to me that I had to have gastric bypass when it wasn't what I wanted and something I felt strongly against (my personal preference for personal reasons).

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?
