11 days post-op feeling bad.

Recommended Posts

hey all my name is Julie and i am 11 days post-op. I was just wondering if anyone else has felt this or am i in need of help. I have this nasty breath that no matter how much brushing of my teeth it will not go away. Also every time i eat i get acid reflux. Maybe i am just pushing myself to get better faster then my body is able. I am going to the doctor for my post op meeting on Wednesday of this week. If anyone knows what i am talking about and can fill me in on what to do and not to do i would be very grateful!

Thanks

Julie:sad:

Sorry to hear your not feeling well. My surgeon prescribed Nexium for the first couple months after surgery to avoid re-flux. Are you following your post-surgery diet to the letter? Remember that is to allow your body to heal properly. You don't want to stretch your pouch, or open yourself up to the band slipping.

The wicked breath is usually because of the high Protein. Not much you can do about it right now but keep sugar-free mints handy.

Hope your feeling better soonest!

Jules, my first question would be, did your doctor do a fill at surgery? I ask because you sound like you're too tight. You could still have swelling post-op, but some docs do a fill when the place the band and for a lot of those patients, there is a problem with the combination of some fill and swellilng making them too tight. These are questions for your doc.....I say, don't wait until Wednesday. Call today and ask.

I would agree with ParrotHead. Some types of "funky breath" can mean your body is in a state of ketosis. Definitely call your doc even if your appointment is Wednesday just to play safe.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
