Recommended Posts

Has anyone or is anyone using Dr. Guillermo Gomez from UTMB. I am getting banded on August 18th and would just like to meet someone who has used the same doc.

Sorry, I have not used him. However, I will be at UTMB for a rotation and may need follow up on my band if I cannot make it back to fort worth. Please let me know how the center is, Thanks!

So far I have been very happy with all of the staff. They are very caring and organized. They really make you feel as if you are their only patient. I will let you know how it goes during my hospital stay. The surgery will be done at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Only one week to go.

Thanks for replying! GL post op. Just remember, walk around and get some gas x.

Haven't been to Galveston since 2005, how is the island post Ike? I'm excited to go, hoping it will still be good beach weather in October.

The island is coming back. All of the shops that were on the seawall are gone. All of the shopping areas look good. It's the areas with the lower income housing that still have some issues. Unfortunately, those people that need the most help get the least.

I went to UTMB for Gastric Bypass surgery and I was treated like crap by Dan O'Rourke and Jeanette Negrotto. Dr Gomez also treated me badly. Kelly at the front desk is a liar. The only person that treated me nice was Dustin . The rest of those people are horrble. Don't go there. There are better Doctors with more experience at Texas Laparoscopic Consultants. They are very nice and considerate. They are located in Downtown Houston on Binz street at Park Plaza Hospital.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
