leaking vanguard band

Recommended Posts

Hey

I have been post-op since Aug. 2007. At first everything super, I lost 100lbs in 9 months. By 1 year mark I was down 20 more lbs. My grand total loss was 126lbs in 14 months. Then things changed. Basically the problem is I have saline leaking or that's what they think so far.I have re-gained 30lbs so far since this Jan. I have had a barium swallow and the result from that showed no slip but no restriction. I should have more saline than ever. I am going this next wk for a test with dye to see if indeed a leak exist. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem with a vanguard band?

I have went for one test the barium swallow. It showed no restriction. The band is still in place but the liquid goes down with no kind of hesitation. I will go Monday for another test with the dye to see if I have a leak. I will post my results. I just want to get it fixed. I am sure if I have a leak that means more surgery. I had great results until Jan . of this year. I paid for my surgery the first time. I am just waiting and hoping for a miracle. As far as what happened I do not know. I should have at least 12cc of saline according to my fills. I have re-gained 35 lbs. I have not had any problems up to this point. I know the lap-band works. I have had success, I just want it back.

I might have a leak in mine too, but mine is not a vanguard band. At my last fill the doc said that I did not have the amt of saline in there that he had put and that if at the next fill it has gone down again then I would have to do the dye test to see if there is a leak. But I am not worried about it until I know if there is a leak.

Please tell me the band company is going to pay for all this. It sounds like its the bands fault.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
