It comes down to this....just starting

Here I am looking into WLS because I have been struggling with my weight my entire life. I am soon to be 23 and am realizing that I am not enjoying my life to the fullest because I am letting my weight affect every aspect of my life. I am a very social person, but I constantly have anxiety about people judging me for my weight. I have tried to diet and do the exercise thing in the past but when going back to college I found it very hard to stay with a plan. I think the lap band would be a good tool for me not to fall into bad habits. In February I started WW and lost 22lbs....i was exercising 4 times a week and making smart food choices. What brought me to a hault was knee pain that has now been noticable in other joints in my body. So without being able to exercise it has been hard to take care of my self and lose the weight. I am depressed that the weight would come back on and that is something I don't want to happen. I am still watching what I am eating but sometimes fall into binges of "treating" myself. I'm just sick of the vicious cycle I have been living with and I find it hard to stay with a diet when I see how morbidly obese my father's side of the family is. I just recently did the seminar and I am waiting to get a call back from the office to set up to meet with the Doctor. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I have never had surgery before so that is one of the biggest concerns I have, is the fear of that entire process. I hope I hear from the doctor soon and hopefully my insurance will cover the costs.

Good luck with your journey!

Don't get discouraged if you learn that your insurance requires you to do a Medically supervised diet for 3-6 months. I was discouraged and let that get in the way for about 6 months ( had I just started it, instead of being discourage, I would have been banded that much sooner!) I have had my band for 6 months and couldn't be happier!

I am running 6+ miles every other day, swimming and working out. I am 60 lbs lighter now, and ready to drop the next 40!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
