Port Question...Im nervous!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was banded on June 18th. I've lost about 12 pounds post-op (plus 20 preop). I'm so happy to never see those 32 pounds again!

Anyways, I have a question. I am sure I am overreacting, but I can't feel my port I think. All I can really feel under my big incision is the hard scar tissue. Is it possible that the port has flipped or am I just being so paranoid? I have realize band which has a lower profile port, but I'm so nervous I'm going to go for my fill in a few weeks and the doctor won't be able to find my port. I did the situp/crunch thing that I hear people talking about but I still don't think I can feel it.

Anyone else have this experience? If so, did your port actually flip or was it fine? So nervous now! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Relax. You probably shouldn't be able to feel your port at all, at least not yet. I couldn't feel mine at first, just a little hard scar tissue. Now, down 70 pounds, I can kind of feel it. The physician's assistant and doctor have felt so many ports that they know exactly what it feels like while you/we don't really know what it feels like, LOL.

You will be fine!

You need to quit looking for your port! Leave it alone. No messaging, no finding, it does not matter if you can feel it or not feel it. Your doctor knows where he put it and he will be able to find it effortlessly.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
