Anyone see a chiropractor after lapband?

Recommended Posts

I have been having a sharp pain between my shoulder blades ever since my surgery on June 4th. At first I thought it was risidual surgery gas pain. But it continued well past the 2nd week post-op. I still have this pain. I mentioned it to my surgeon and he said it was "unusual but not unexpected." The pain does go away after I eat (it wakes me up in the middle of the night when I'm really, really hungery). I'm now five weeks post-op and I'm getting really tired of waking up from the pain and having to eat. I'm thinking maybe the chiropractor can help me some. What should I be concerned about? My chiropractor is very hands-on and pushes and twists in all sorts of ways. Do you think my band and port will be ok? I'm going to explain the band and port to him before he does anything, but I thought I'd draw on the vast wisdom of everyone here. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

PS. Please don't try to convince me that chiropractors are quacks or some such thing--I know that this alternative treatment option is controversial, but I've had very positive outcomes with it.

Chiropractors are fine, complementary medicine definetly has its place.

However in this case I don't think it is the answer. If the pain started after the lapband surgery and is relieved by eating then i would say it has something to do with the band.If it is troubling you speak to your lapband surgeon again and if you are sure you want to go ahead with the Chiropractor ask your surgeon his thoughts and if it would be OK.

Far better to do this than just go ahead and possibly risk something happening to your band.

Elcee, Thanks for your thoughts. Have you ever mentioned chiropractors to your doctor before? Mine looked at me like I was going to a Witch Doctor! I really do appreciate your response, and I will give it careful consideration.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
