Need Suggestions for After Surgery Meals

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am totally new here, and I am scheduled for Lapband surgery in four days! I am excited and nervous at the same time. I have purchased some Protein powder, both Isopure and Unjury, but what do you mix it with? The only thing I can think of is skim milk. I know there must be other tasty options. Anyone care to share?

Did your Dr. put you on a pre-op diet? I was drinking muscle milk light before the surgery and my Dr. said that was fine for afterwards. 48 hours after your surgery, you can only have Clear Liquids, Make sure you have Soup broth, unsweetened juice, watet and sf popsicles. My paper work says I can have unlimited, coffee, Water, crystal light and tea. So for I've only had broth, water, a few sips of apple juice and one SF popsicle. I can't drink more than 3 oz at a time. I just had my surgery yesterday (7/2) and my whole body is aching - so don't forget to take your pain meds -even through the night.

For one week after, my doc had me drink Ensure or Boost for Vitamins. Other than that, I have been enjoying prepared soups...everything from broccoli cheese to Tomato Soup (Prefer the gourmet, boxed ones to the can). Oh, and Butternut Squash Soup (boxed, prepared) is fantastic. Otherwise, sugar free Jello and pudding are quick grabs for Snacks. (TWO WEEKS BANDED NOW AND THIS IS WHAT I EAT...in addition to some soft solids now like instant mashed potatoes and I puree everything. I make dinner for my husband and 5 year old and just puree my part. We had zuchinni casserole and pork chops last night. I just put my serving in a blender and pureed. Like baby food.) :-)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
