Hi, Annette, welcome to the forum.

I replied to your agony in another post, and, unfortunately, like this one, I have no real advice for you.

Everyone goes through the gas problem differently. I'm not sure if you are using Gas-X or some other type of gas relieving medication, but that might help some.

I'm dreading this part immensely, and my heart goes out to you. But it will eventually subside. I'm sure it's just pure murder in the meantime!

Hang in there! :smile2:

A few suggestions;

1) use a heating pad on your back

2) Do not drink w/a straw, that induces more gas

3) when you walk, or are sitting down, try and move your arms around as much as possible.

4) Keep up w/your gas x

hope you feel better soon

I'm sorry you are so sore! I felt the same way. Just know that it does get better. I felt much much better by day 7.

Also, my SAVING GRACE was Maalox Total Relief liquid. Hope it helps you too!

liquid Advil has helped me a great deal. I'm taking it it combination with the prescribed Lortab. I ran out of Advil on Sunday, and felt the pain return. I got some more yesterday and it took away the pain on my shoulder. Good luck. I'm using a heating pad as well. Some people use ice...

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
