what are your aftercare opportunities?

Recommended Posts

Hi- just wanted to hear what aftercare opportunities your wls offices are offering? do you have support groups- how often and what is the content and who runs the groups. Also- do you have a contact person at the office that you can call if you are struggling? What other aftercare opportunities might you have?

Mine is through a big hospital so all my pre-op docs were there. I don't expect to need them again, but I can make appointments with any of them (Psych, Nut, pulmonary, cardio, etc) if needed and I expect when I talk with my doc at my fills that he would send me if he felt it was needed. They have a monthly support group meeting that combines both RNY and LB patients, but I haven't been yet...I've been thinking about giving it a try sometime (I think the June meeting has an exercise physiologist speaker). Honestly, I look at the time I spend here with my blog and posts as my support system.

I agree with band groupie. I have so much support here and I feel so much more comfortable on this site, plus I don't have a ton of time to get baby sitters, etc to take time to travel to a meeting that I may not even feel comfortable in. Online seems to be a really good fit for me. The people I have "met" on this site have been wonderfully supportive. I also have a group associated with the big hospital that I could go to that combines everyone. I like having a majority on this site where everyone has had a lap band at some point at least and knows what it's like. Not that I want to exclude anyone, its just more comfortable for me. I might look into attending an actual group later though...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
