I feel your pain. I had hoped that I'd be one of those that could stop taking all my diabetes meds the day after surgery and never look back...haha...no such luck. All I can tell you is to keep doing what you're doing and as you lose weight, I'm betting your BS will improve.

I stopped taking my meds (2000mg of metformin and 2 doses of glimiperide per day) 2 days after surgery, and my BS stayed pretty low for about 10 days, but then it starting going up again. Now, I am 3 weeks post-op and am taking 500mg of metformin a day and that is keeping me in the 85 to 125 range. I am also trying to eat low carbs, and am not having anything sugary.

What does your doctor say about it? Hang in there - I'm sure it will improve as you continue to lose. Good luck!

I was banded May 15, 2009. I was sure I would be off all diabetic meds by this time, but no such luck. I had a UTI, and port incision infection right after surgery. So high sugar. It hasn't come down much. In fact the doctor told me to stop the glipizide before surgery to avoid low sugar. I take 4 actomet tabs a day. My sugar was 219 random a few days ago, so I went back on the glipizide. I also went to the doctor for a UA to see if I still have an infection and that was why my sugar is high. 200 is extremely high for me and I am eating so little. I have an appointment with my pcp on the 14th maybe he can figure it out. Fasting bs is between 140 and 170. I don't know what is going on... How are you guys bs doing? Any better?

I expected to my blood sugars go down after surgery (banded on May 27, 2009). My sugars are dropping way too much. My fasting glucose came in at 130 before surgery. That was with 2000mg daily of meformin, 100mg daily of Januvia, and 5mg daily of glipizide.

Since the surgery I have lost 32 pounds. I have cut my metformin and glipizide dosage in half and my morning glucose readings have been between 90 an 100. Late afternoon before dinner my glucose has been in the 80s. Anything below 80 is bad news for me and my co-workers.

I will be seeing my primary care doc again tomorrow, and I think it is going to be important to work with him.

I am a long time type 1. I used to get jittery below 100 also. However for the last 10 years I have been doing low carb because I wanted to live long enough to raise my kids. I was able to get my average BS below 100 all of the time, and as a result, I can tolerate the lower BSs pretty well. When you are used to higher readings, any type of drop is uncomfortable until you body gets used to it. I can be 50 and sometimes lower without even knowing it. The upside is that my A1c is 5.0. The downside is that I have to really watch to make sure I don't get really low. I have rarely been as low as 27 without knowing it, but it makes me work harder to keep it in control. I never take anything for granted any more. I just keep checking, checking, checking.

Best of luck to all.....

7 months post op .. 42 pounds down and A1C higher then ever .. I don't get it nor does the doc. How frustrating. I have made so many changes and it almost feels like for nothing. :( :(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
