My insurance doesn't cover the surgery. I was looking others options, somebody told me some doctors offices ofers payments options or self payment programs. I was looking one of those in Virginia on hamptom area or north of Virginia

I was self pay but I paid for my surgery before it was done - I don't think there was a payment plan option where I had it done. I know there are some places where you can apply for "credit" to pay for your surgery and then pay them back in monthly installments. Personal loan from your bank. You might research and find other options. If you have choices, make sure you look into what type of aftercare comes with the plan/place you choose. I got my surgery and 2 years of visits and fluoroscopic fills for $12,900. With the cost of fills, I felt that was a good deal. Good luck to you. Becky

The surgeons' office doesn't do a payment plan, per se. They hook you up with a medical loan company. At least most of the time it works like that. They want their money up front. The hospital and anesthesiologist, too.

Alternately, you can also borrow from your 401k via a loan or use your savings or credit cards. Some people refinance their homes. Of course, with the economy the way it is, less people can do that these days.

Another way is through a HSA, if your company offers such a think. I paid for part of my surgery that way. I said I was going to put in 5000 that year in Aug (the max allowed) and then in Sept, I got a check for the whole $5000 even though I hadn't put that much in yet. It's like an interest free loan. Though, if I left the company, I'd have to pay the remainder back on my last day.

I was self pay. I used Care Credit. You can apply on line. You can use it for any type of medical procedures, like plastic surgery, bariatric surgery, even for your animals. The website is www.carecredit.com. It was the best money I ever spent. My life has changed in so many ways. My anniversary is July 30 and I need to lose 20 pounds more to reach my goal. Good luck.

I have care credit also, applied through my doctors office. I hate the fact that I am putting us further in debt, but I feel like now is the time for me to do this...I guess it is a good thing that one of our vehicles will be paid off on JUne 3rd, cause my surgery is June 17th...ho hum, as long as my job keeps letting me work overtime...I am gonna lose weight and lose debt at the same time...my two enemies  hehe

Hey! I am loving my band...I was banded March 27th 2009 by Dr. Lopez, through ISA. Im going for my 2nd fill June 19th, first fill was May 15th. Restriction is there, just need a little more to find my sweet spot!

Financing!! ARGGGGGG I was self-pay also, credit was kinda poor so I couldnt get approved through the care credit and WLS financing companies. I did come up with a way to get the money though - without using credit. If you want to email me, I'd be more than happy to share with you...its VERY frustrating.....BUT I found a way.

I used Care Credit and was really impressed with how easy it was to apply and the approval was super fast. I’m not sure if you can use Care Credit if you go outside of the country, but you might want to consider that route if you are on a budget. I just took my sister down to Dr. Ortiz in TJ and the experience was wonderful (and less than half of what I paid). You can read about it here

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
