First fill today- left shoulder pain

Recommended Posts

So I had my first fill today- was very conservative .5 cc put in. The dr. offered me 1 cc but because I was so swollen after surgery I was afraid I might just be "sensitive" so I wanted to take it slow. When I was done with the fill they gave me some literature to read before my next fill in two weeks- WELL- the paper states not to eat anything two hours before my fill. Today I ate about and hour before my fill. I am having really strong left shoulder pain and was wondering if anyone knows why this might be happening. I thought it occurred after surgery because of all the gas they fill you up with but that of course didn't happen today. The shoulder pain is a trigger to me when I have eaten too much but I have had nothing to eat since before the fill about 8 hrs ago. Do you think the pain is because of the food I ate before the fill and it is lingering- doesn't seem logical as it was so long ago. Anyone know why I am having the shoulder pain?

The tighter I get with my fills, the more often I feel the shoulder pain, too. However, I'm at 5.25 cc. If you've just had surgery recently, you're probably still swollen and you're just sensitive to your new fill. It will probably settle down. It's just something I deal with quite a bit now. Call your doc, though, if it continues and you don't think it's right.

The only thing that works on gas pain for me (extreme left shoulder pain) is Maalox with simethicone in it (you have to check the label). It works every time!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
