Hi, I, like probably everyone here has fought weight issues all my life. If I added up all the money I have spent on weight loss (Nutrisystem, Diet center, WW, books, videos equipment) I could pay for the surgery without insurance! I'm 59 and am at my wits end. I have been seeing a therapist since Nov and she feels I have a chemical imbalance. Next week we will be doing blood work to see just what my issues might be. I have very high cholestral, high blood pressure, back issues, including one surgery and depression. I am so sick of feeling useless and hating myself because I can't lose weight on my own. I have tried pills inthe past, lost but regained all plus. When I mentioned the lap band surgery to her she wasn't thrilled and suggested all these test. I called my insurance and I believe I would qualify. I'm 5'4", weigh 215 and my bmi is 36.9, which is at the low end of qualification. I just hope I can get everyone on board and agree with me. I know this surgery is not a free ride and I still must work to lose the weight but I need this tool to help me. Hubby is nervous about it but I'm sure once he can talk to the surgeon, once I get an appointment and go to a semminar with me, he'll understand more about it. Well I've rambled enough, thanks for listening. I'm sure I will be posting many questions and thanks in advance for any advice and encouragement you can give me.

Welcome Deb! It's amazing how much money it costs us to "diet". Lap band is a wonderful tool that helps you lose weigt and so far i've lost 45 lbs since my surgery. i feel great and have never been more active in my life.

Hope everything works out for you! Whether you get the lap band or not.

You're a little bit west of me. I'm about 50 miles north of

Albany in the beautiful Adirondack mountains. Pm me any time. Would love to talk.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
