Hi Heather,

Thanks for asking!

I got home yesterday. Surgery went well, but have 'scoline' pains as a side effect from the anaesthetic. EVERY muscle in my body hurts like I've climbed 20 mountains and done workouts at the top of each one. I have been told to expect them to last 2-3 days, so hopefully they'll be gone by tomorrow night or the next day. It's making it impossible to get in or out of bed, or to turn to get toilet paper etc. My husband has had to look after me beyond the call of duty!

I very nearly chickened out of the surgery at the last minute, but I think I'm happy I've done it now. Time will tell!

I told my parents and sister last night, and they were great about it. Such a huge relief!

My kids are wondering what on earth is going on, especially seeing me eat sloppy food with a teaspoon.

Thanks again for asking about me! I just haven't made it to my computer 'til now.

Early x

Hey early! I was in on the 22nd too. I'm hoping tonight I'll turn the corner as I've been up every night for pain meds. I still have to get DH to help me up and down...sore! Here's hoping tomorrow is better for you!

I hope you're feeling better every day! I was worried about you since you said you didn't tell anyone. I'm so glad your family was supportive. That makes the journey that much easier.

Walking, heating pad and massaging my stomach helped me get the dreaded gas moving. My God was it painful! I was so excited to feel normal again.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
