Missing my food!!!!

Recommended Posts

Help, everone!! I am being banded on the 27th and am worried about missing all the food I used to eat (that got me obese in the first place!). What will I do w/o eating to comfort me??? Will I get over it eventually? Will I miss it at all? I haven't even had my band yet and I am mourning food! Is this sick or what?:tt1: Also, this preop diet sucks!

For me personally not dwelling on what I couldnt have and rather enjoying and experimenting with what I could have has gotten me thru.

I have lost all my cravings I had before my surgery and don't really have that "desire" to chow down anymore- It is only 3 weeks out.....

I have been out twice with friends and havent felt out of place- Most places have Soup or something mushy-last night I ate with a spoon instead of tortilla chips spinach and artichoke dip and it was good- yeah I only had a few bites but it was nice to be with friends....

I think those feelings you have is normal- That is what this board has brought me- reassurance you are not alone and encouragment to get thru this!

Good luck!

I had that same problem a couple weeks before my surgery. I love food. It really felt like I was ending a love affair I didn't really want to but had to because it was killing me. I was banded on April 8th and it hasn't been so bad so far but I expect some degree of grieving over my ended relationship with food. Like any other bad relationship you have to learn to move on and become a better person for yourself first and the people you love and that love you back second.

i was just banded yesterday and last night i had a good cry over the end of my relationship with dr pepper and cheeseburgers. i didn't have to do a pre-op diet so i feel some withdrawal right now but i am hoping that in time it will pass and i will replace those bad habits with good ones. good luck on your journey!

This is a natural thing to be feeling. I ate some of those items I enjoyed after surgery when I was on normal food (12 weeks out). As I got to the right level of restriction and over time, I just don't desire those foods anymore. It was a nice transition and I lost during it so I am happy.

I think this is a natural thing.........I was banded on 4/13/09. I am missing food too. I had a few days of OMG what did I do I can't eat anymore............psychological addictions are always way harder to break than physical ones................I knew it was gonna be hard.............and it has been. Your mind plays games with you..............I am about two weeks out and it is getting easier but I really think this is all normal part of being banded.

Best of luck. Next week is the big day!!

I haven't been banded yet and also wondering what will I DO?! I'm a SAHM and spend all day filling sippy cups and making Snacks, I open the fridge 50 times a day... I'm worried I don't have enough hobbies. :

krispykreme,

Honestly, I thought I would miss certain food BIG time and I was very, very concerned. I commited myself to this, and somehow,,, your wants and tastes change. Alot of the foods you can still have, JUST IN MODERATION.....

My big loss was Diet Cherry Coke, I missed it very badly. I have tried all the differant ways to try and get the fizz out.. It just does not work for me. IT is just not worth the feeling sick when I do try it. Again, Your wants change.

As you get your fills and your restriction, your relationship with food WILL change. For the BETTER. I promise. You'll stop thinking of it so often and not have such a fondness for eating to fill up. I LOVE MY FOOD and am quite the foodie, and have learned to cook DELICIOUS meals, and am a MUCH better cook post-band. But now, I don't obsess over what to eat. You'll get there too.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
