BCBS of GA approval time....?

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone here from GA that can shed a little light for me and tell me how long BCBS of GA usually takes to give a response? I am on pins and needles waiting to hear something. Also, does anyone know if BCBS of GA cover fills? I am going through True Results with Dr.Hart.

Anything would be helpful.

My BCBS policy has an exclusion for WLS. Every policy is different. I would suggest you call the customer service number on your insurance card and find out for sure that you are covered, if there are specific requirements like supervised weight loss for some period of time, etc. That way, at least you aren't just sitting and waiting. Dr. Hart did my surgery. Love him! Not a real chatty fellow, but thorough, will answer any and ever question you can dream up and his reputation is impeccable!

Thanks for the information. I did everything that the insurance has asked of me so I hope I do not have to wait very long reply.

If you've already "jumped through their hoops", just make sure for yourself that the paperwork has been submitted and ask how long it takes. It could be 2 weeks or 6 weeks. I've heard of different experiences. Remeber that, above all, you are the consumer of a service here (yeah, it's medical but it's still a service). And you have the right to ask as many questions as you like and ask them of whomever you like....so call your insurance company and set your mind at ease. the reason I say call to make sure your paperwork has been submitted, I have heard more than person say that their doctor's office said they were submitting the paperwork "today" ... only to find out two weeks later that it hasn't been sent. If you find it hasn't, call the TR office and find out why and push to get it done ASAP.

I have bcbsga and it only took 2 days for a approval. I made sure that when Dr. William Johnson staff at the Atlanta bariatric center submitted by paperwork that they included everything that bluecross needed that was listed on their guideline that would support that I met medical neccessity. cynthia

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
