Hi,

I had a Lap Band in Nov 2008. I have not lost the weight I thought I would. I am eating more and I never full. I have had 3 fills. what is wrong?

You eat too much and/or you have not achieved restriction which is vital in the lapband system.

Some, even after 3 adjustments, still don't have restriction...so it's eating as normal.

But once you get that band tight enough to limit the amount of food you eat- that's when you can expect weightloss.

Now is the time to try to make better food choices, to begin a new relationship with food.

Your band isn't being used yet- not til you get restriction....so keep going back every 4 weeks for an adjustment....you'll get restriction eventually.

Come back and let us know how many adjustments and cc you have when you finally get restriction.

I had the surgery in March of '08 and didn't reach restriction until Oct. '08. It took 10 cc's for me to feel restriction. I was so frustrated and felt like such a failure. If you are eating anything you want and as much as you want, then you don't have restriction. I suggest you continue to go to the doctor and let him/her know what your situation is and make him/her give you fills until you reach restriction. Believe me, once you reach restriction you will know it. Don't let anyone convince you that this is your fault. Once I reached restriction, it was a whole different ball game. I've lost 60lbs. since October, and I love my band. Good luck to you, and I hope this helped.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
