WOW.... I woke up this morning excited because I started Weight Watchers a week ago to start losing weight on my own because I didnt know what the outcome of the insurance was gonna be and I just want to be healthy and since it had been a week it was time to weigh myself. I lost 7 lbs!!!

Then as I was walking back to room already excited, my phone started ringing and little did I know it was Scottsdale Bariatric calling to tell me that I was APPROVED!!!! I didnt believe her, I have been trying to get approved since Oct 6 2008, it was such a long road of trying to get my doctor to help me. I instantly started crying it was not the reaction I thought I was gonna have.. I thought I would jump up and down and scream and all I could do was cry tears of happiness. It was crazy. She started telling me my schedule of the next two months including my pre-op edu class, pre-op visit, surgery, fill, dietician visit, post op edu class. It was waaay too much to take in....

When I got off the phone I went to my brother and he knew from all the tears and me smiling at the same time... I didnt even have to expain. He couldnt believe it. He had asked me everyday since October if I heard anything ..it was starting to get old.. but it finally paid off..

Everything is going good now, I know what I have to do.. everyone supports me... its just the start of new beginnings.... the feeling is undescribeable.... i feel like today was a dream...

PS.

To top it all off, my best friend Zac came over and he had no clue i had gotten the phone call, and he told me we were going to the zoo today and I replied back with a huge smile .. I got approved... What a day :):) The zoo topped it off!!

I just had to get that all out!!

Hey De!! Congrats on the phone call, and getting approved for the band!! They told me I wouldn't get approved through insurance and my pcp wouldn't approve me either, all because on the inside there is nothing wrong with me, yet! So I decided screw that, I started saving my own money and will have enough to pay out of pocket by June. My surgery date is June 9th! And I tell you what, from the day I found out it's been like I'm walking on clouds!! LOL... I actually had to force myself to think of other things because the excitement was getting to my stomach. So I know how you feel right now, it's an amazing feeling, June won't come fast enough though!!! Until then I'll be :crying:... goodluck and God bless! J

They told me the same thing, but I didn't give up! I didn't have a BMI of 40 or any co-morbid diseases. The bariatric center encouraged me to write a letter to the insurance to submit with my paperwork. I explained what I have done in the past to try and lose weight and what my family history is and so on. I guess something worked because I got approved, granted it was a long road and the girl who runs the authorizations at the Bariatric Center said they sent it back a couple times but she kept returning it and telling them they needed to go over it again. Good luck to you, hopefully you get it done soon!!

Congrats!!! This is the most exciting journey! When my husband and I got our "approval calls" I didn't know how to react either! In fact, I think I showed little emotion until it was over! I'm so excited for you!! Keep us posted with your journey!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
