3 weeks post op and traveling to India for 5 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded on March 4th and will be traveling to India for a 5 week assignment. I will still be on mushies and soft food for most of the trip, but will transition to whole foods by the time I return. I plan on taking instant oatmeal, Protein power, instant hot chocolate and crystal light. Hoping to do eggs in the morning and supplements for lunch, but I'm struggling for how to handle dinner. Eating out every meal for 5 weeks will require some good planning. I'm hoping for some suggestions on food and meal strategies.

I hope you like curry!!! LOL The little place we go to eat at around the corner makes their curry with chunks of sweet potato. It's delicious, and easy to eat. I've always been able to eat rice, so a little curry sauce over rice and you should be okay. They have a spinach and bean curd dish that would be mushy enough for you to eat as well, not to mention high in Protein and Iron. banana and fried plantains should be okay. I think your first week will be a lot of observation on what is available, then writing it down so you can ask for what works elsewhere. Will you be in a big city that may have an American market? Ask around.

New to this journey but since I've eaten tons of Indian food, I think you should be fine. You should have no problem finding vegetarian foods but I would steer clear of the nans, pooris and other breads. As for Protein, eggs should be in abundance. And if you can't find what you're looking for, ASK!

Good luck and have a safe trip.

I say eat what you want. You haven't entered the weightloss phase of the lapband system...right now you are just healing.

Adjust your foods as your doctor has prescribed- but enjoy!

Come back and let us know how your trip went.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
