:w00t: Ok, I am 3 day's post-op, and I am having a hard time trying to figure out my abdoment. I know this sounds strange, but I can't decipher what is a hunger pain and what is gas! Seriously I am so full of abdominal gas it is really really bothering me. It's rather painful too....iv'e tried gas-x and that did nothing at all...I finally had my first BM today and thought that would help with the gas, but no such luck...I have had to talk my self out of vomiting like 2 times each day and wonder why this is not subsiding? My incisions are rather painful and I can not imagine having to actually throw-up. I still have that feeling that somebody kicked me in the chest too....I'm kind of scared of this pain, is it normal? Anyway getting to my point....How long is this feeling of no hunger, way too much gas and abdominal discomfort going to go on for...???

Any help comment, suggestion will help....I'm going to speak with the doctors office tomorrow but thought any advise tonight could only be a help...thank you, Kerrie

Kerrie, we are only one day apart and I will tell you from day 3 to day 4 was amazing. My gas pains are practically gone and my incisions have started itching, which means they are starting to heal. I know it's really uncomfortable and I can't tell the difference still between hunger and gas.

I finally was able to sleep on my side last night for a little bit instead of on my back, which was REALLY nice!

Let me know what the doctor says...I am going for my postop on Sunday and will get all my other questions answered then.

Hi, I was also banded on 03/09/09. I too, have a lot of gas pain. Also tried Gas-X, but it didn't work out. I've been burping and farting. I hope burping is normal. Actually I feel better today than yesterday. I still have a lot of gas pain, but not as bad as yesterday. However today I feel my stomach is tightening or pulling, like the stomach is stuck with something. It's hard to describe, I felt a little sick over this feeling. I also talked myself out of vomiting. I don't know if this kind of feeling is normal as well.

The gas is most likely gas they pump into your abdominal cavity to spread things out and make the surgery easier. It isn't in your stomach or intestines and gas x and so on won't touch it. it will subside over time. Just take your pain meds and don't try to make yourself vomit; that won't help and could actually hurt you!

If you are still in pain and miserable tomorrow call your surgeon!

Everything you all are descibing sounds very normal. Try a heating pad that really helped me with the gas pain. I have also read from a lot people on hear if you have one of those back massagers that it helps to use that on your chest. Plus walking will really help push the gas out. I went to Wal Mart one day and walked around a bunch and it really helped

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
