The Surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to the insurance company (BCBS of TX) Thursday 2/26/09 and BCBS approved it and sent out a letter on 3/2/09. I had read some posts about BCBSTX being really quick with approvals and I'm so happy that was true in my case too! I got the letter in the mail today. Now I'm just waiting to hear from the surgeon's office on what to do next. How long did it take for some of you guys to get banded from when your insurance approved the surgery?

Hey! Congrats on your approval!

I had scheduled a surgery date before I was even approved by my insurance because the surgeons office was so confident I would be approved. I had my consultation with my surgeon on January 7th, and while I was in the office I sat down with the surgical coordinator to schedule the date right there and then.

It all depends on your surgeons schedule and how quick they are to figure out a date. If you don't hear from the surgeons office within the next few days, I would call again. Be persistent in trying to find a date because I've heard from others that sometimes it takes a while for the office to get back to you.

Congratulations! I had set my surgery date prior to approval. The insurance company approved with 24 hrs of submittal of paperwork. Good luck on your journey!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
