Is it a slipped band or what?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Wasn't sure where to post this but I am on 5 weeks post op and was doing great except for last 2 days. It all started Sunday morning; I had excruciating pain while laying in bed, so much so it was tough to turn over and get out of bed. Added to it was the pain I felt when I breathed in deeply. Same happened early this am; it hurts throughout the day but seems to be worse when sleeping. It so happens I had my post op follow up today and told my Dr. how I am feeling and he suggested an upper GI but feels very small chance it's a slipped band since I am not vomiting, salivating profusely, etc.

Wanted to reach out to you folks to see if anyone experienced similar either with or without a slipped band. Also, and this falls under TMI, DH and I had sexual relations :rolleyes: for the 1st time on Saturday since surgery and then all of a sudden this happened. Not that we are swinging from chandeliers (yet:tongue_smilie:) but could that have caused something to go wrong with the band? I have been so paranoid about sex and the band post op which is why I made DH wait a month.

Also- been taking Gasx in case it was residual gas pain but not been to helpful.

Thanks to all in advance for your insights.

Hi Abby,

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My surgery date was April 30, 2008 and I have had the same symptoms as you. My doctor has sent me for an upper GI three weeks ago. Turns out the band is right where it’s supposed to be. I am pretty confused since I’m still vomiting food even though my band has been wide open for over a month. I have an appointment this week and we’ll see what’s going on. I hope things turn out well for you. BTW, you may not want to go shopping or anything after the GI. The iodine reeked havoc on my digestive system. I know, too much info. But it’s information that I wish someone told me. :laugh:) - Nicole

Hi Abby -

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a year after surgery - the pain - the vomiting etc. Doctor sent me for a Barium swallow, which showed that my band had slipped. They took out the old one and put a new one in right away, and since then all's been good. I do still throw up sometimes, but only if i eat to fast. Get it checked!

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
