Hi Everyone! I'm having my lapband surgery Monday, March 5. I've been pretty excited 'til now. Now I'm really nervous. I have all my doctors instructions, but I kinda feel like I'm gonna have to figure things out on my own. Any advice?

Pre-surgery jitters are very normal. Just take one day at a time. Be sure you're stocked up on a variety of liquids to get you through the first few days. I also started using adult strength liquid Tylenol after day two, so if you haven't yet, you might want to pick up some this weekend. But, most importantly, just plan to get plenty of rest the first few days home.

Welcome to LBT, and good luck with your surgery. Check back in when you're home and feel like getting back on the computer. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask either on the board, or send me a PM, and I'll try to help.

Hey Silver,

Let us know how your surgery went! You'd have to worry a little bit if you weren't jittery, wouldn't you? After all, surgery is surgery, and embarking on a major change of lifestyle is also a legitimate reason to feel a little nervous. Do you have people around you to support you? How are they responding to your decision?

This site has a lot of information, both theoretical and a lot of good, tried common sense. Don't relate only to the recent posts; find the threads that are relevent to you and read through them at your leisure, gleaning what you need to hear along the way. You've gotten good advice here already - rest is essential, as is sticking to your doctor's post-op plan.

Welcome to LBT and good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
