hi can someone tell me how to get Protein in while on a clear liquid diet? i will be banded on the 20th and i want to make sure i get some Protein in.

I am using "Liquacell" it is a Liquid Protein that has 16 grams of protein per 2 tbls. It comes in Grape and Orange flavor and I take it in raw form by the spoonful or mixed in some Water. It taste just like Koolaid. And unlike the powders which have to be mixed with several ounces of Water I like the fact that I can just take it by the spoonful. Because consuming volumes of liquid with the band takes time. Sip by small sip. I also use it to crush and empty my other meds into and drink. Tried putting them in some Apple juice and it tasted like "Brass Monkey" LOL. Anyway, Good Luck!

I'm 3 days post op too Ashley, and about where you are,, better then yesterday but still crappy. I'm walking a little easier, but find the pain meds make me nauseous. Still gassy and feel like I need to burp all the time. I'm drinking broths, Protein shakes, G2 for dehydration and lots of Water. I had a yogurt yesterday to stop the cravings. I'm glad its the weekend, I don't plan on doing anything but laying around. I had to go in the office today to do the banking and return phone calls,, everyone has been real patient with me,, kept my hospital Bracelet on just in case someone was a jerk!

I was foolish to think this wasn't going to hurt for awhile!!

Had my surgery on the second totally understand the gas, shoulder, and eating issue. I konw I am not getting all my Protein in because it is just too thick. I try my best and I am only getting in like 60 grams. If I drink too much I get the burps and hiccups which hurt. Just take it easy.

Oh honey! Hang in there. I know that right now, it must seem like the pain is not goin to go away, but it really does - I swear. I remember that I really couldn't tell if I was full or not so I just stopped eating too, which is good, because you don't want to eat too much and then have to get sick. The GasX strips were my lifesavers through the gas pains and every now and the, still a few months later, I get bad gas and it cures the pain. My advice, you MUST keep walking around. I know it hurts, but it the only thing that will get the gas moving and get you healed faster. Please keep me posted on your progress. We are in this together!

I myself had the same thoughts - I did a little research and went online. You can google "Clear Liquid whey Protein" A bunch of sites will pop up and you can chose any - they are viles of Liquid Protein. Doesn't taste the best, somewhat like watered jell-o, so I cut the portions in two and added some Water so the consistancy wasn't so thick.

Hello Ashleyb, I had my surgery on the 3rd as well. Starting to feel better, but still have a tightness in my chest when I breathe deep. I think it may still be the gas from my surgery. How are you doing on weight loss?

I just had my surgery on 2/26 my start wt was 308 and after my 12 day pre-op diet at surgery I was at 289. I am now done to 272 for a total of 36 pounds. I think everybody lose wt differently. I am still in pain at the port site but never thought about a stomach support, I was wondering how i will be able to return to a 10 hour day of work on Monday. I was doing okay on the liquids but since yesterday I feel like I am starving and only allowed a quarter cup of mushy foods just does not do it.... but I will say I ate a little more mashed potatoes then I should have and I paid for it big time.. I got really icky last night and was so glad i still had some anti nausia meds left i was able to take.... Reading all these post it seams everyone is a little different on weight lose and lenght of pain after surgery. But I have found a lot of comfrot in knowing I am not alone in my experiences.

I was banded on March 4th. It was not as bad as I thought it would be execpt that I could not pee more than 100cc so they had to put in a foley, now that hurt a bunch about 1" in and my prostrate was tight. I have not had much gas pain to speak of and could not fart till Friday mid morning but was burping all afternoon Wed. I am sore don't get me wrong in fact they were giving my morphin every two hours. The liquid hydrocodone did very little to relieve the pain but the IV morphin worked wonders. I was up walking the halls two hours after they got me to my room. I must have walked 100 laps between Wed afternoon and Thursday. I was not released till 1500 on Thursday and I don't think they would have let me go then but they needed the bed. They were not happy that the liquid hydrocodone was not working very well. They told me to alternate advil geltabs between the liquid hydrocodone doses. But here it is Saturday and I have only had two doses of liquid hydrocodone and one of advil. I have also finially had my first BM since Tuesday as well so everything is working again. The Dr had a little trouble in that a artery was in an odd location so he had to take extra time placing the Realize band. The band ended up being tight because of that from the test completed Thursday morning. I have been on long walks each day (1 mile or more) which helps a lot with everything. Thye told me I can't walk my two dogs for two weeks (90lb labs) but I have been walking along while my wife walks the dogs. Good luck to everyone I hope everyone is having as good a time with this as I have had so far. The only real problem is keeping the liquid down to 4oz an hour like they want me to but I am trying.

I had a rough night last night, still not sure why.. My left side started hurting as soon as I went to bed and my stomach swelled up. I got up and walked around but it made it worse,, it was more then an hour before I dozed off sitting up in bed,, I was finally able to lay on my right side and slept restlessly till 2 am when my son woke me cuz he has the stomach flu... EEEEEEEK,, I sent he and my husband to the couch. I was able to get a little more sleep and felt horrid that I couldn't comfort my baby, but I am terrified of getting that right now, and daddy took care of him.

Anyone have that kind of pain? I'm really constipated even with the softeners so maybey it was gas?

Foremank, sorry your feeling so bad,, what exactly are you eating? I don't think I have heard anyone w/ diarrea, do you have a stomach bug,, its everywhere here! You should check in with the nurse at your docs office right away..

All I've been eating is 1/3 c cottage cheese, 1 sm yogurt, 1/4 to 1/2 cup pureed Soup or similiar, sugar free pops, V8 cream Soups 1/3 cup at a time, broths and EAS advant shakes 1/3 cup at a time,, talked with the nurse yesterday and she okay'd everything, said I could swim for a short amount at a time at the 10 day if I was up for it..

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
