my surgery scheduled for tomorrow 2-24 well technicaly i guess its tomorrow already, but i cant seem to shut my brain down so i can sleep for a few hours. all the random thoughts are going through my head. ive had a life long fear of anesthesia. ive had 3 kids and wouldnt even have epidurals during labor.i keep asking myself is this the right choice, the right time? at one point i thought about going to the fridge eating whatever i want and calling the whole thing off. thank god i didnt do it. i just have to keep reminding myself of all the reasons that this is the right decision for me.

i just wanna say thank you to all of you who have posted your stories and for your encouraging kind words. reading them tonight has reinforced in my mind what a positive tool this is going to be in my life. i just guess were all afraid of change sometimes, even if we know its for the better :w00t:

Jennifer, I had the same fears you did prior to my surgery. I had reached the ripe age of 40 and had never had surgery before being banded. I just KNEW something was going to go wrong. Well, everything went wonderfully, and I was home by 4:30 the same day. You should be fine. Try to calm down and focus on all of the reasons you are doing this. If that doesn't help, tell the anesthesiologist to pop you with a feel good cocktail to calm you down after you get there. You won't remember a thing!:w00t: Good luck and post when you feel up to it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
