Has anyone tried the 5 day pouch test?

Recommended Posts

I am going to use the 5 day pouch test plan to help me get back on track this week. I am also hoping that I will respect the size of my pouch and not stretch it by eating large portions by the end of this plan. Wish me luck.....Thanks!

It does work rather well. I've done it once to quick start a lull in my loss. I lost about 3 pounds that week. I did get very bad breath thought. Ketosis...... It's a stinker! LOL

Hey I agree.. what is the pouch test? Does anyone know what it takes to stretch that pouch? I have only been banded since January but fear that perhaps I have stretched some since I don't feel much of any restriction.. Only time I do is if I eat too fast and too much by not chewing so good. Then it talks to me very quickly!!! Don't like that at all.. :w00t:

I have done it twice, when things seem to slow down and I need a boost. It helps to get rid of the sugars and carbs in your diet. It helped me get to onederland. They have a website with recipes and the diet. google it to find it.

I'm due for another round with it. I highly recommend it.

Yes the 5 day pouch test is great. I have no willpower and couldnt make it past day 3. However, by then my pouch has shrunk up so much I couldnt eat hardly anything after that.

Good luck!

I was planning to start it tomorrow. I tried last week but didn't get past day two. I'm going in for a check up and a fill for the first time in a year (I'm stuck and have gained back 20 pounds) so I think it's a good time to knuckle down and stick to the 5 days. The good news is that I love Soup so can enjoy some tomorrow :-).

I'm starting it today actually and we shall see how far I get. I think I can make it the whole 5 days, let's hope! I'll report back with my results!

Well I started the pouch test and then went in for a fill yesterday and found out I had a stretch pouched and inflamed stomach. So I got a complete unfill and am on liquids for two weeks to heal.

What I thought was interesting is that the nurse told me that healing takes two weeks and you need the have the band unfilled to take the pressure off and allow the inflammation to clear up. I thought the 5 day would help me shrink the pouch (I assumed it was enlarged) but it probably wouldn't have been enough.

Also it was interesting to learn that .6ccs of liquid had gone away. I'm not sure if it was because I had someone else do my last fill. The nurse said the band is somewhat porous and can lose fill over time. I didn't know that.

Hi, Bella!!

I wish you all the best!

The first time I tried it, I didn't make it the first day on liquids. My stomach was growling so hard I thought it was going to go on strike.

The second time I tried it, I made it through to Day 3. I felt so much better though after just two days on liquids. It gave me time to listen to my stomach again and clear the "head" hunger out of the way again. I lost three pounds that week and got back on track with eating healthier.

I hope you will find it helpful too!!! Let us know how it goes!

Britt,

I am just wondering, why did you think you had a stretched pouch. Can you explain if you felt anything different...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
