Hi Everyone, I was banded on Aug, 09 by Dr ortiz in Mexico and I am new to this fourm. I am having severe gas pains and I was wondering if other people had the same thing happen to them and how long it lasted? and what people did to help the problem. Anyones input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Seanymoss

Hi, I was banded on the 8th of August and I agree with you the gas pains were a lot worse than what I thought they would be.

They do get better everyday.

GasX and LOTS OF IT. Take it as often as you think of it. Don't worry about exceeding the dose on the label. When you have laparoscopic surgery they blow you up with gas to give room to move stuff around and that all gets trapped in there.

Walking as much as possible also really helps move things along. Also don't be shy and modest and hold it in....you HAVE to get that out so let 'er rip!! Seriously, get up and walk even if just around your living room. You don't want that gas to settle in your shoulder where it HURTS like hell. Keep walking and keep getting in as much GasX as possible. This will pass (pun intended).

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz also..I had gas pains. Walking is the best medicine. Walk as much as you can. Lying down doing nothing makes it worse. Heating pad also helped me as well as Gas X but walking first and foremost!

I found something that saved me. Read "I hope I'm not in trouble" thread. What I did along with a little GasX worked right away. I guess it's worth a try.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
