Can I claim back some of the cost?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've just booked my surgery in Mexico. I read somewhere that you can claim a small portion of the cost back thru Alberta Health Care. I have been in contact with them and they say if I have it done in Canada I can.

I read it on a Alberta website that arranges surgery in Mexico - does this ring any bells with anyone???

Cheers

I got something back from AHC from my procedure.

The out of country claim form is AHC 934. You should be able to find it on their website.

The key piece of information is an itemized statement from the clinic.

Refunds range from $1,200 to $1,800 based on other threads in this section.

Cujo

ps Where did you decide to go?

Don't forget you can claim on your Income Tax. Just make sure you get a letter that you are a candidate for obesity surgery and keep all receipts. You have to prove to the CRA that you couldn't get surgery in your immediate living area before CRA will pay for mileage. Talk to your accountant to see what type of documents you must have from Mexico

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
