I have been banded 8 weeks now, and absolutely love my band. Though I do have a question. About 6 months before I was banded I got a bad stomach virus, I could not keep anything down. What happens when you get a stomach bug when you have lapband? Has anyone experienced this? I have not thrown up since being banded so I have no idea what would happen if I got a virus.

I asked the NP at my surgeon's office and she gave me a prescription for phenergan....told me to get it filled and have it on hand in case I get nauseated.

I'm not banded yet, but I asked my surgeon this very question when I went in for my consultation visit. He told me that a lot of times he will ask the patient to come in and do an unfill until it passes. He said he would rather do an unfill on someone than to risk slippage or any type of damage to the stomach or the band. This was the first time I had ever heard of that, but it sounded reasonable to me. I am usually the one in my household who ends up getting every sickness worse than everyone else. In fact, an ER doctor thought someone had strangled me once after I had the stomach flu. All the vessles in my eyes were busted and the whites of eyes were so red from blood. But, I see a lot of people say their docs give them an anti-nausea med like Zofran or Phenergan.

Wow, PSJ, that must have been one heck of a stomach virus.

I also asked the nurse practicioner in my doc's office about this. She said they would call in a prescription for me, but that if I was vomiting more than a day, they'd want me to come in for an unfill too.

I had the stomach flu about 2 months ago and I thought I was going to die. I could not throw up for nothing and it hurt so bad when I was trying to. I did this for 2 days and then I got better.

DITTO!!! I haven't gotten a bug yet but came close and my doc wrote me a script for phenegran. Felt better in 20 minutes.

I will NEVER travel without it or be at home without a current bottle of it...just in case.

Gotta protect my investment.

Exactly ten days after I was banded on 1-13-09 I started feeling nauseated. The stomach flu was going around my kid's school and I had been there for a play a few days before. I started to worry. I took one of those phenegren pills (and nearly threw up from the taste alone) but managed to ward off the vomit. I took the pills everytime I started feeling sick again and low and behold, after 24 hours, I felt okay again...no throwing up! Pretty amazing because I cannot recall one time in my life that I felt that way without ending up on the floor in front of the toilet. Here's to phenegran!

I was banded 9/4/2007. I had the stomach bug for the first time with the band this past week! OMG! Everytime I would try to throw up it would just not come out! It was horrible! I wished I could throw up to get it over with! Also, it made me my port hurt and reminded me of right after surgery! It's three days later and my port is still sore. I'm going to call my dr next time!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
