Tai Chi??

Recommended Posts

Have any of you bandsters tried Tai Chi?

My wife and I just started taking Taoist Tai Chi classed 2 weeks ago, and we're really diggin' it. We've barely scratched the surface with learning the first 4 of the 108 moves of the tai chi set, but it's deceptively strenuous.

It's not at all vigorous exercise, but at the end of a 1.5 hour class I feel like I've gotten pretty good workout. It's also very good for relaxing and reducing stress.

The instructors and other tai chi students claim that there are many other health benefits, but I'm just hoping to get stress relief, better balance, and increased range of motion from tai chi.

So far I'm pretty happy with tai chi. Has anyone else had either positive or negative experiences with tai chi?

I would LOVE to take a Tai Chi class, problem is they are all so early in the morning!! LOL One, 1 am NOT a morning person to begin with but 2 I have to work anyway. I did buy a DVD and enjoyed it, but it was very difficult to do the moves fluidly while trying to look at the TV at the same time! It's great excercise for balance and stability, highly underestimated in my opinion. Good Luck! Keep it up!!

I really love Tai Chi. I too have a dvd but find that it is hard to do and watch. I haven't found a class to fit my schedule; I work 3pm-12am Mon-fri all the classes I found are in the evein. I still am looking for one that fits in

good luck

I've heard that it can get very confusing trying to learn Tai Chi from a video. A DVD just can't provide any feedback about form and isn't paced to meet your needs. Luckily, I can take a class that meets in the evening or on a Saturday AM. I try to go to both, since I can get 2 different instructor's take on the same moves.

I hope that you'll get the opportunity to learn with a real live instructor.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
