Sudden Restriction w/No Pain. Slip or not

Recommended Posts

I was banded in March 08. In that time I have lost 20lbs and have gained back 8. I have had 6 fills and they tell me there is no leak, etc. and its my fault with what I am eating, and that may be true. Yesterday, I woke up and for the first time felt restriction. I can eat small amounts and I can drink liquids, only not too much at a time. I feel the way I think I should feel. Is it possible that it was in the wrong place or the stoma was too big and now its slipped into place? Or do I have slippage and need to get a revision? I have no pain or reflux so I am tempted to leave it and see what happens. Anyone have an issue like this?

When was your last fill?

Sometimes it can take days or even weeks to feel the effects.

Have you had any stress lately?

Stress can cause me to feel instantly tighter.

It doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about, slippage usually causes things like reflux, pain, loss of restriction, weight gain. I would agree that you should just wait and see what happens.

Mrs,

Any and all of that is possible, but without pain or complication, I'd leave it and see how you feel. Hormonal changes can cause my band to puff up and down sometimes too, such as getting one's "monthly bill" or stressful periods of time. I think the body adjusts to changes at different paces and your sudden restriction may be that the swelling around your tummy and belly has settled and now the band is in a good spot. Without normal warnings such as pain, heartburn, vomiting or reflux, I think a harmful slippage is awfully rare.

Its great you've been proactive about getting fills and I wish you luck on your future weight loss progress! Just one question...when they checked for leaks, do you know if they checked just the band, or the cord leading between band and port as well? Often docs can puncture the cord with a needle during fills and nobody realizes it until they get several fills and realize the Fluid isn't reaching the band.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
