My husband and I both are beginning our journey to wl surgery. We met with the surgeon last week and really are pumped. Spoke with insurance and the paper work has begun. I have been overweight my entire life and once I have had kids, the weight has packed on. I am diabetic, high trigylerides, high blood pressure. My hope is to get off of all medicines and enjoy extra years with our kids.

My husband has not always been overweight, while in college, he started eating to get over broken relationship and has packed on over 100 pounds oer the last 10 years. He on the other hand does not have diabetes, high blood pressure and his cholesterol is great as is his triglycerides. However, he has horrible sleep apnea and horrible breathing problems, to the point he wakes me up at night when he is gasping for air.

We are really excited and look forward to a relationship on this forum with our journey.

Hi! How exciting that you are getting to share this journey with your husband. My husband and I had our surgery on 1-13 and it has been great.

Like you I have high blood pressure and my husband did not have side effects from the extra weight even though he is a 100 pounds heavier than me!

Anyway.....everything has gone really well for us and I hope the best for yall.

Hi and welcome. My husband and I are also doing this together. He was banded in 11/08 and me in 12/08. So far so good. He's down 35 pounds and I'm down 16. I have all the health problems and he doesn't just like you. Good luck to both of you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
