Post OP....How did you feel 72 hours post op??

Recommended Posts

WendyMary:

I'm just 24 hours post op and I'm feeling great! My stomach just feels like I've done about 10,000 crunches though

I've only taken my prescribed pain medicine once, and I have liquid Tylenol if I need a little something. I don't want to take my pain medicine unless it's absolutely necessary.

No gas pains so far, and I'm hoping it stays that way!

I'm not sure how old you are, I'm 27, and my doctor said that may help my recovery go a little smoother. So far I have no complaints!

I'd say if you're feeling as good as I do 24 hours after surgery, you'll be good to go 72 hours after. Given you take some pain medicine and do what the doctor says.

Good luck to you! This is an amazing journey.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me

Sincerely,

Maggie

Hi WendyMary,

I promised to report back to you at 72 hours. That was this morning for me. I feel much better today and stopped taking my Vicadin because I wanted to get out and go shopping. I took a 25 minute walk without problem. My incisions are sore but are not throbbing. I usually only feel them after just standing up from a sitting or lying down position. They do, however, hurt when I go to the bathroom or laugh. This makes me worry about you at a funeral. The same muscles used for laughing are used for crying too, I think. I suggest, regardless of how you feel 72 hours out, take pain medication before the funeral.

Let me know how it goes for you. Again, sorry for your loss.

Jill

I'm glad to hear your feeling better Jill. I will be careful and I feel so much better about my decision to go forward. Thanks for your help.

Wendy

Hi everyone,

Just a quick post to let everyone know that surgery went well. I had about a one hour stay in recovery and the worst of the pain was the shoulder, but that has subsided. Thanks to all for all your support. I will post and keep you updated and let you know how I do on Wed. Thanks.......WendyMary

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
