Has anyone had their first surgery cancelled?

Recommended Posts

My primary doctor called today and won't clear me for surgery until I see a cardiologist, my surgery was supposed to be Thursday! Has this happened to anyone else? :cursing:

Melanie

PS, I have been on my liver diet for 12 days and lost 12 lbs...I am going to stay on it!

mjg12 - I had mine cancelled 2 weeks ahead of the scheduled day back in 2006 because of anemia (normal Iron level is 45-50 - I was at 10). I was really upset, but by waiting until I could get my Iron back into the normal range, I think I've handled the surgery much better - even if it did mean a hysterectomy and another year of building my iron back.

Hopefully you'll get the all-clear from the cardiologist quickly. It really is best to go into this safely.

Good luck.

I did! It stunk. I was just a few days away. I had lost a ton like you have and then my jaw swelled up. I went to the dentist and he said my cap cracked and let an infection in. I was devostated. I look back now and since my weight loss has slowed so much I think, what are 6 weeks in the scheme of things. Yes, I had to wait 6 weeks. I was lucky someone cancelled or it would have been longer.

You are angry now, but you will not even remember it (unless you read a thread like this lol). I wish you the best.

peedy recovery.

Your surgery wasn't cancelled, just postponed. I was told it could happen to me but fortunately my ecg showed what I thought...that my heart was/is fine.

Wouldn't you REALLY rather be safe? I know it's disappointing but it's worth it. You want the odds on your side here.

My surgey was not post poned but I was referred to a cardioligist for a stress test 2 days before surgery. I was not cleared for surgery until wednesday and had my surgery on thursday the 8th. I was a little scared but it was worth it to make sure everthing was ok before surgery. I am 5 days post and doing well. Hang in their it is worth it

My surgery wasn't cancelled, but I did need a cardiologist clearance due to a history of high blood pressure, my age and my history of smoking.

I was cleared. Many times the doctor is just trying to cover all of his bases to ensure a safe surgery and recovery. The more cearances you have the less likely the surgeon is to be sued.

Hi! Can you let me know what liquid diet you are on. I have to start mine. I am surprised you were not mandated to see the cardiologist as part of the preparation for the procedure. I had to with my insurance. EKC and ECO Cardiogram and stress test on the treadmill had to be done.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
