I lost my first 20 something pounds after the surgery, and yes i was hungry too. my surgery was on 12/5 and i am still hungry. I just keep looking at the scale of what I lost to make me feel a little bit better. My first fill is on the 12 of this month so I hope that takes away the hunger feeling.

Why does it take so long for a fill? I was under the understanding that as soon as you can eat regular food for one week you get your first fill....Please explain I am getting really depressed here..

Everyone has the hunger, and it may not go away, and until your first fill you may gain some weight fighting the hunger. It takes a while for you to get a fill because your stomach needs to heal. You just went through major surgery. And of course the band needs to settle. When you start eating soft foods it will get easier, not by much, but at least by then you can eat. Hang in there, in time it will get better, this is the learning phase for your body, use it well.

My doc does fills after 6 weeks (the first one) then every 4-6 weeks after. And I have more bad news; I'm at fill 3 and still get hungry and have no restriction that I'm aware of (although I'm not gaining and not dieting so I guess I am eating less, as my doc said I would) For some it takes 4 or more fills/unfills to get in the zone. Just tough it out; it's not bypass, it's slower, but it works if you do your part!

7 weeks postop here, had my first fill at 4 weeks and am having my second fill in two hours. I had 3 cc in my band from surgery and got 2 cc on my first fill.

I still get seriously hungry too. It takes time. Hang in there.

I not a doc! I'm a nursing student so don't you EVEN call me doc! LOL

AH I see....the "Dr Sonny Cavazos" is MY doctor, not me. If I can

remember how to edit my profile, I'll elaborate. When I joined,

lots of posters were listing their surgeons at the end of their signature info...

I was told by my Dr. The first fill a month after the surgery so my tummy could heal. Then every 2weeks depending on the fills .It does seem like a long time . I had to wait a week longer because i was trying to schedule my appt. around work and my kids.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
