Help, no weight loss in almost 2 years =( I haven't posted on here in forever!

Hi Everyone,

I had surgery May 23rd, 2007. I have yet to lose a single pound. I am so frusturated. I don't know what I'm doing wrong I have pretty much given up. I had surgery at NWWLS which I know is one of the best places. So why haven't I been losing. It seem sno matter how many fills or unfills I get I either throw up everything or can eat everything. I have been in and out of my surgeons office and finally stopped going. one because I was tired of the pain of getting filsl (my port is in a reaally painful spot and it always tugged on) and two because it now cost $150/fill and I just can't justify spending money on another fill. Right now in the morning my band is really tight and will losen after I eat one thing. I also seem to get air always trapped in my band an it is so painfulto the point where I will literally have to throw up air. Everyone keeps telling me I need to just hit my sweet spot but I just can't seem to get to it. I had this surgery when I was 18 and financed it myself and am starting to feel like it was a big waste of money. I look at everyones success stories and I am just so discouraged and feel like I will never get there. I mean it's been almost 2 years. Has anyone else had this problem? I feel like I am the only one having trouble. any advice guys? This is kind of my last attempt before I throw in the towel. I would really appreciate it.

IF you are ready to do this, I recommend getting fills...and if you say it's either throw up or continue massive eating...then be more agressive and go to the throw up side.

Seems your doc could fill you half way and then in increments of .5cc until you do start throwing up.

Then adjustments of removing .2 each time until you get to where you aren't throwing up EVERYTHING.

You just have to find a fill that will work for you.

Hate this has happened to you, but don't give up!

Are you saying 2 years zero lbs.? Either no restriction or too much. Sound like you need to slow down on your eating. See the nutritionist at your Drs. Use the diet outline they give. Remember the band is only a tool, you have to learn how to use it. My doc is pretty strict on following rules, get a fill, you should be on all liquids for 2 days then mushy for 2 more days and then ease into your diet. Measure all your food, either weigh it or use a measuring cup. It will not happen if you are not dedicated. Lap band work is not easy, but the results are worth it. You should n=know that after two years. Are your exercising any at all. Cardio 2 x aday would help, start with 15 min each time and build up. I was banded in Jan 08 and down 65 lbs. I am 15 lbs to goal and it is very hard at this point. I think some bandsters get the mentalitiy that once you fall off the wagon you cant get back on, wrong! wrong! wrong! You have to alter your entire life, chnage everything to keep from falling into the old habits. It sound like you have learned to work around your band. If you are tight in the monring, getyour fluids in early. Protein Shakes, Water, cryatal light whatever, as the day goe on use the softer Proteins. Journal EVERYTHING you eat. keep up with your proteins and ounces your drink. Work , at it . it will come. Does your doc use the FLouro light when he does a fill, to see how much goes through the band. Start slowly, limit your eating time and chew chew and chew till food is liquid. You are at a good place to get a lot of advise. Surely you may need a heart to heart with yourself. Good luck. you can do it!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
