I'm home from my surgery. Months of worrying are finally over.

Even as I embrace this new lifestyle, I'm a little apprehensive of what it will mean. I will miss that big plate of General Tso's chicken. But then again, I won't miss diabetic complications.

If anyone's interested, I've been blogging the decisions and thoughts leading up to today, including my surgery experience. CamTheGeek.com

Congratulations!!! I'm bookmarking the blog now.

I freaked out a few days after my surgery because I felt like I'd never be able to eat my favorite foods again. My doctor sat me down and had a long talk with me about what his expectations are. He wants me to be able to eat anything I want...just in very small quantities.

Granted, it'll be a while before you're eating solid foods and some foods may not sit right with you, but don't get depressed about the foods you'll miss. Many people say they aren't even interested in a lot of their old favorites. So far, that's not true for me...but I am eating a LOT less.

Congrats! My freaking out started about a month before surgery and I went out and ate all the stuff I wasn't going to be able too. Ends up, I was wrong about most of the stuff. Sure, no more carbonated drinks, but I'm a carnivore and the focus on Protein is great. When I went to solids, I tried to eat some of those things again. Even with only a tiny amount of restriction, I find some things are too tough. After suffering through a couple of bites, I don't want them anymore. Now I look at all the things I can have. After so many diets of being limited to what, being limited to how much is such a relief. Like Sandielaw says, pretty much anything is okay. Just remember very small bites chewed very well.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
