Another one for people banded around 10/22/08

Recommended Posts

After that last post, I have to ask -- do any of you guys still have shoulder pain ever? Mine is gone 99.9% of the time, but every few days, it hurts for a while in the same way it did after surgery. Was wondering if that's happening to anyone else!

Also, how long did your Dr make you wait for a fill? I have to wait 6 weeks post-op for my first one (it's scheduled for Tuesday - yay). I was banded in Mexico (Dr. Rumbaut w/an Inamed band) and my Dr. here in NYC uses a different brand of band, so her patients can get their fills earlier. Just curious to know what other peoples' experiences are like!

I do not have shoulder pain any more and I was banded 11/1/08.

My doctor will fill me 6-weeks post op if I need it. I have 3ccs in a 10cc band, because the doctor prefilled at the time of surgery.

I never had any gas pains to begin with and my surgery was on Oct. 24th. I had my first fill Nov. 23rd, (i think that was the date)- 3 days before Thanksgiving. I hope all is well with you... good luck!

My surgery was on Octobe 23rd. I had bad shoulder pain for 2.5 weeks..it was awful. It slowly went away and i no longer have it. Id tell your doctor about it and see what he says. Sounds like you may still have some air trapped in there. Try walking alot and drink lots of fluids. Another thing that helped me with the pain was heat pads. Id use the bags you can put in the microwave for a few min. That eased the pain. good luck. :tongue2:

I was banded on 10/13 and was very lucky not to have any gas pains at all. I got my first fill of 4.5 cc's on 11/18 and am scheduled for my second fill on 12/23. My doc said I will probably get another 1.5 cc's. That will be a total of 6cc's in my 10cc realize band.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
