struggling with food

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm still fairly new to the site but I was wondering if anybody out there could help me out. I was lap banded on Oct. 30th of this year. I did really good for the first little while and was losing a lot of weight. However, recently I've been struggling quite a bit. All I'm currently allowed to eat right now is Protein, protein and more protein. So, according to my dietician I can have poultry (turkey, chkn), tuna, eggs, Peanut Butter, tofu. I'm pretty much getting sick of all of this stuff. But the hardest thing I'm struggling with right now is trying to feel full and not being able to eat carbs. Oh how I miss my carbs! What can I do to try and get over this?

Another problem that just started happening is I'm only suppose to be eating 2oz of protein 3x a day and there is sometimes where I can get way more down than 2oz if I really wanted to. That's where the feeling hungry comes in. If I don't get full from the 2oz of food I feel hungry a lot sooner. Please, if there's anybody out there that can help me I'd appreciate it. I'm really, really struggling with all of this right now.

IMO your diet is way to strict. Is this how you are supposed to eat forever? While most of us are to be on a Protein based diet, we need some veggies, fruit dairy and some whole grains once in a while.

Have you had any fills yet?

If you just had surgery on Oct. 30, you probably haven't had a fill yet. You don't have good restriction which makes it harder to stay hungry. Most people call this bandster hell. Check with your doctor about maybe allowing a Protein based snack like sf/ff pudding or beef Jerky to help keep you satisfied between meals. I know my doctor's office said that until I get proper restriction, that I was to eat until I was satisfied not just trying to stick to 2 oz of protein per meal. They said that once I have reached proper restriction, I won't want but about that amount. Just contact your doctor and let them know you are really hungry. They may tell you it is time for a fill (usually done within 4-6 weeks). I hope that you are able to get this resolved. Being hungry between meals is a bad feeling and a fast way to discourage you. You can do this!

I feel like I'm very restricted on what I can eat, too. I will be able to add fruits and vegetables to my diet on Dec. 8th. I'll also be able to add low fat or fat free dairy to help me give a little more variety with the Protein. However, I'll only be able to add 1oz of fruit or vegetable per meal. So, in another week I'll be up to 3oz of food 3x per day. I'm hoping that will help with the hungry part.

My next doctors appt. is on Dec. 17th and I'm hoping that I'll be able to have my first fill. I don't know how much longer I can go with being hungry all the time. I went into the surgery being told that that would not be a problem and so far it has been. Because it's been so hard I've made a lot of mistakes and haven't been sticking to my diet like I'm suppose to be. And when that happens it makes me feel like crap and then I wanna just eat more. It's just one big circle.

It will get better. Although your diet seems a bit more restrictive than usual, most of us go through bandster hell and with a fill or two things will be so much better. I think it will also help a little when you can add some variety to your diet. It is a difficult period but in the end it will be worth it!

Yeah that seems real strict, but hang in there. What made some people I know feel better is they would get some kind of a Meal Replacement shake and drink it to make them feel full there are also these things called control bars that actually have been proven to suppress appetite, now that I havent tried. Check it out here if your interested take a look.

I just got banded on Oct 16th and am going thru the same thing. But, I;m not hungry really, just want to eat and definitely dont feel full at all. I have a first fill Wed of this week and cant wait. I have already lost about 22 lbs and I have varied my diet because I dont know how much to eat or what to eat. I have had vegetables, some brown rice, whole wheat bread. I also still have a shake with frosen fruit for breakfast and dinner cecause its easier than thinking about what I can eat. I cant wait ti get a fill so I can finally found out what this restriction or feeling of such fullness is like. So, dont worry. I feel your pain and know what youre going thru. Lets try to hold on till we get our fills. Good luck

Hang in there it will get better. I eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits, veggies, lean protiens and whole grains. I don't even miss bread anymore. I do eat brown rice and sweet potoatoes, these are very filling and healthy. I tend to focus on natual and healthy foods. I see this as MY chance to change my lifestyle

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
