Port Replacement after 2nd Fill

Recommended Posts

Hello Sept. Samurai's, well guess what? I was admitted into the hospital after a failed 2nd fill. This time the doctor tried to fill me instead of the P.A.'s - Remember what a mess my first fill ended up being? So, the doc found my port no problem but could not extract saline it was just air. So, I decided to make another appt under fluoroscopy. Before I left I was to drink Water even though I had no saline injected. OMG! I could'nt drink the water it came back up and for the first time I had the pressure and heart burn feeling and ended up PBing. The pain did not subside and I was sliming and I was scared. The doc admitted me into the hospital for a port replacement.

What had occured she thinks is that since I had 2 P.A.'s and Dr. Le Port trying to locate my port for the first fill and guessing on how many cc's they put in when my 2nd fill occured it pushed the saline from the first fill 6 weeks ago down to the tube near the stoma. This obviously was too much for me. I had surgery 10:30a.m the following morning and was told that I had 10cc's in a 9cc band! What the @#%? I was closed up with 2cc's in my Realize band and now 4 days post-op and recovering well.

How many of you have had to have a port replacement since September Surgeries? have you had a fill since then and was everything okay?

I had a port flip, but thankfully it's back where it should be. They blamed it on a muscle spasm. I don't think so.

I'm sorry you're having so many issues.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
