Did you miss your period after having surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on the 3rd of November. My period was sched to come yesterday and still nothing. I know surgery can some time throw your body off. Did anyone else have a late period after surgery?

TIA

I had surgery on Oct 16th, while I was on my cycle :). I should have had another cycle start on Nov 11th or 12th and yet still nothing as of today. Spoke to the PA about it yesterday when I went for my first fill and she said it sometimes happens and I may not have my period till Dec.

My period was due the day after surgery, and it arrived right after surgery (11/20 - this past Thurs). I was told by the nurses that surgery can actually bring on menses...but I bet all bets are off on that one...sounds like anything can happen....anything that "interrupts" regularity.

My cycle started 10/8 I was banded on 10/13. I was 6 days late after surgery. Which is really weird since that is about the amount of time it took me to feel like myself after surgery. I also called my doc and he said it's normal.

My period was due the week after surgery. I didn't get my period for 2 months. When it finally came, it STAYED for more than 2 weeks.

I went close to eight weeks after having my surgery before I had my next period. Between the change in diet, weight loss, anesthesia, surgery itself, nerves, etc., it is not surprising that ones hormones may be a bit out of whack and your period could become a bit unpredictable.

I didn't know this, but apparently estrogen is stored in large amounts in body fat, so losing weight quickly releases it into the blood stream and can play all kinds of havoc with one's cycle. I have not missed a period yet, but would not mind if I did! ha! Zero chance of pregnancy here, so a missed period is just a vacation from it.

Opposite here...due to PCOS, mine was rare before surgery. I got mine shortly after surgery and has been pretty much every 28 days since.

Mine came a little early the day after surgery . . . and it never came early before. I think surgery is just a big shock to our bodies and we are all affected differently. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you are not likely to have conceived prior to surgery.

Just a word of caution, I can tell you that my periods changed after surgery. What was light with minimal cramping became heavy, longer and I was not a very pleasant person to be around with PMS.

This happened over months 2-6 post banding. You store hormones in your fat, as you lose weight it is released and you might get "super-periods" like I did.

This evened out after I lost about 50-60 pounds and I went back to normal again.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
