lap band problems, swelling?, then unfill

Recommended Posts

So I had a piece of meat stuck, regurged it finally in a couple days, then was only able to keep small sips of liquid down. After a week of this and thinking the worst such as a slippage, I saw the doctor and he unfilled my band. The doctor thinks I probably had swelling and maybe since I lost so much weight (115#) that the loose skin came back through my band and was causing problems, so he wants my band to rest and calm things down and I will get a fill Dec.3. The problem now is I am gaining weight. About 10# so far and I am depressed. Yes, my old habits have come back, because all food goes down without a problem. Today I am going to keep track of calores and try not to snack and eat healthy. I know what I have to do but a lifetime of obesity does not go away. Any helpful hints? Anyone else experience this? I do not get a full feeling. Though I am drinking my Water. I could not eat bread before so I refuse to go back eating bread as that would not be good. Thanks! My goal is to not be more than 5# heavier when i return for my band fill.

Hi suzie, I'm a bit in the same boat, I had a small unfill due to pregnancy tightness.. that tightness went away so I've been eating more than I should.

The best tip I can give you, one of my friends told me.. make sure to eat things that stick with you longer. High Fiber, High Protein. That can help you control the urges to snack.< /p>

Just keep being strong, and try exercising (or upping your exercise) for the time being. Your fill is right around the corner, you can do it

Thanks for your encouragement! I am going to increase the exercise and find something healthy to fill me up. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
