Waiting for surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am Fran from CT, in am scheduled for surgery on Dec 3rd. I was to have surgrey on Nov 10th but it was cancelled due to illness, bad cough and the Doc said it was bad idea to go ahead with surgery because I would hate life for obvious reasons. I had to follow a pre-op diet of liquid protien for 2 weeks. I did ok the first time...lost 19 1/2 lbs in the 2 weeks. Now I am on the second round of the 2 week pre-op and having a hard time with only liquids. To top it off, I have to cook Thanksgiving dinner for my family and cant eat a thing.

I am looking forward to not having food control my life. I am still coughing so I pray that in 10 days this cough will be gone. Can someone tell me how much pain is involved in the laproscopic surgery?

Welcome franny..

Everyone's pain threshold is different. A lot of people said it was minor, just a little bit of aching.. So I went in thinking it would be pretty minor.. but honestly, I felt like someone had ripped up my insides! The good news is, they give you good pain meds in the hospital, and send you home with some.. so in the end, it's nothing you can't handle

Good luck with the dieting right now, I definitely feel for you. But this is just a blip in time, and post-op and post-post-op-diet.. you'll forget all about the troubles of these diets, and just love your band

Yes everyone is different with laprascopic surgery. I had my gallbladder done in April 2007 and I did wonderful. I was on paid meds for one day and then no more after that. I am excited to get my lapband and am not too worried about the pain. If you have a high pain tolerance you should do well. I have had friends who don't have high pain tolerances and they did just as well. So good luck!!!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
